The VMMDF is the initiative of award winning and internationally established South African/recording artist VUSI MAHLASELA.The foundation was established in late 1998, and its Trust Fund was registered in 2000.The Foundation was registered as section 21. All our Tutors are incredible professionals who have established themselves in their own right and who are very committed to the organisation.
Our organisation intends to:
· Revive interest among South African musicians in playing and investing traditional African instrument for use in the recording. This will include instruments such as kora, mbira and marimba.
· Develop a workable music training curriculum, which will cater for intermediate, advance and special training of musicians who are interested in contributing towards promoting African cultural music. The training academy will be professionally run and managed.
· conduct a series of music workshops for the benefit of musicians. Workshops will be facilitated be established musicians and enhanced by the contribution of visiting overseas musicians.
· Conduct several development projects which will include outreach projects to be carried out for the benefit of school children in townships and rural areas. This will be done in association with the Department of Education of the relevant provinces.
WHAT WE DO
Aural General Musicianship
The foundation has developed a curriculum with prominent University (UNISA.) The University will procure the necessary accreditation of the foundation courses with SAQA (South African Qualification Authority) towards degrees and diploma studies.
Free Workshops are concurrently conducted by our Tutors every Fridays between 09h00 to 16h00 for the learners, whereby sometimes other artists and celebrities from outside are invited by the foundation to workshop the learners
VMMDF hosted a number of events since inception in 2001 which include the following: African Nights, Standard bank Joy of Jazz, FIFA 2010, and other open Air live performances
